Living around Omote-sando as an International Resident

Omote-sando and Aoyama have many international visitors and overseas brands, and English signage is relatively common. Municipal matters such as resident registration, taxation, National Health Insurance and childcare, however, follow Japanese administrative procedures. Kita-Aoyama and Minami-Aoyama are handled by Minato's Akasaka Regional City Office, and Minato provides a three-way interpretation service connecting the resident, an interpreter and city staff. The city also publishes living information in Easy Japanese and English. Some local medical institutions provide guidance for international patients. English or Chinese cannot be assumed at every shop, clinic or real-estate agency, and foreign residents seeking rentals should confirm residence-status, guarantor-company and domestic-contact requirements in advance.
