Culture and History around Omote-sando

Omotesando developed historically as an approach to Meiji Jingu and today combines its zelkova avenue with contemporary architecture, fashion and design. The Nezu Museum at 6-5-1 Minami-Aoyama is officially listed as an eight-minute walk from Exit A5. Its approximately 7,600-item collection focuses on Japanese and East Asian antiquities and includes seven National Treasures and 93 Important Cultural Properties. Its garden is itself an important element of the local landscape. Along Omotesando, architecture and retail development from the postwar era to the present have helped make the wider Aoyama-Harajuku district a center for fashion, design and art, allowing visitors to experience both historical and modern urban culture on foot.
