Shiodome for Students and Young Adults

Shiodome is not a university district, but access to the Toei Oedo Line, Yurikamome and JR and subway services at Shimbashi gives students and younger workers a wide range of commuting options. Yurikamome is particularly useful for Odaiba, Ariake and Tokyo Big Sight, including event, exhibition and part-time work trips. Cultural attractions include the free Old Shimbashi Station railway history exhibition and the Ad Museum Tokyo, while Ginza, Tsukiji and Hamarikyu are also nearby. Housing, however, is dominated by high-rise apartments in Higashi-Shimbashi and Hamamatsucho rather than large concentrations of inexpensive student studios. Rents vary substantially by age, size, floor level, view and specification, so a single 'student rent' figure would be misleading. Students placing a high priority on housing costs may find more options by comparing other stations on the Oedo Line and surrounding districts while keeping commuting time within an acceptable range.
