Culture and History Around Hinode | Tokyo's Oldest Pier

The history of Hinode Pier is central to understanding the district. Official information from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Yurikamome identifies the pier, completed in 1925, as the first pier built in the Port of Tokyo. Low-rise historic warehouses remain, and some are still actively used to store cargo transported through the port. Hinode is therefore not simply a redeveloped leisure waterfront; it is also a working landscape where Tokyo's maritime logistics history remains visible. At the same time, water buses and restaurant cruises have added tourism and passenger-transport functions. In 2019, the Hi-NODE small-vessel terminal opened with a passenger waiting area, restaurants and lawn space.
