Shimbashi's combination of JR, subway and Yurikamome services provides excellent flexibility for work and commuting. Clinics, pharmacies, convenience stores, drugstores and restaurants are densely distributed around the station, putting many daily services within a short walk. However, the western and Karasumori areas contain numerous late-opening restaurants and drinking establishments, and the atmosphere changes significantly between daytime and late evening. Women living alone should assess the exact route from their preferred station exit to a property at the time they normally return home, checking lighting, pedestrian traffic, street solicitation, convenience stores, police facilities and building access control rather than treating the entire district as uniformly safe or unsafe. The Shiodome side has a different environment dominated by large offices and hotels. Minato City also operates the Libra Gender Equality Center. When choosing housing, the quality of the actual nighttime route may matter more than the advertised station-walking time.
