Shopping around Shimbashi
Map & surroundings
Shopping around Shimbashi includes New Shimbashi Building, station-front commercial buildings, convenience stores, drugstores, food outlets and numerous service businesses aimed largely at the weekday office population. On the eastern side, Shiodome's large mixed-use developments provide additional retail, while a short walk from the Ginza Exit leads into Ginza 8-chome and then to department stores, luxury brands and specialist retailers. Shimbashi itself functions more as a place for convenient purchases during commuting, work and dining than as a destination shopping center. Opening hours vary widely, and facilities dependent on office traffic may operate shorter schedules on weekends and public holidays. Ginza provides stronger weekend retail, meaning that expanding the practical shopping radius to 500-800 metres greatly increases choice. Residents should specifically check the location of supermarkets and grocery options along their normal route home.
