Parks and Green Space around Daimon

Shiba Park is the principal green space around Daimon. According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Park Association, it was one of Japan's first officially designated public parks under the 1873 government ordinance, alongside Ueno, Asakusa, Fukagawa and Asukayama. Its recorded opening date is October 19, 1873, and its area is approximately 122,501 square meters. Mature camphor, zelkova and ginkgo trees contribute to a landscape closely associated with Zojoji and Tokyo Tower. Near Hamamatsucho Station on the eastern side, the Former Shiba Rikyu Gardens preserve the tradition of an Edo-period daimyo garden. Zojoji's grounds also add substantial open and planted space beside Shiba Park. Although the immediate Daimon station environment contains offices and major roads, large green spaces are only a short walk away. Residents interested in walking or running can choose quite different routes toward Shiba Park or toward Shiba Rikyu and the Takeshiba waterfront.
