Shinagawa for Students and Young Adults

The immediate Shinagawa Station area is dominated by offices and hotels and is not a classic student district comparable with Waseda or Takadanobaba. Its advantage for students and younger residents is mobility: the Yamanote, Keihin-Tohoku, Tokaido, Yokosuka and Keikyu lines make it easy to reach campuses, jobs and social destinations across different parts of Tokyo. Universities and schools are also found in the wider Takanawa and Shirokane area, while the station offers cafés, restaurants, bookshops and retail. Housing immediately next to the station, however, is not characterized by a large concentration of low-cost student apartments. Budget-conscious residents may benefit from comparing neighboring stations on the Keikyu or Keihin-Tohoku corridors rather than limiting their search to walking distance from Shinagawa.
