Shopping around Gaiemmae

Gaiemmae is not organized around a single large shopping center. Residents tend to use street-level shops along Aoyama-dori, Gaien Nishi-dori and neighboring streets. Convenience stores, drugstores and food retailers meet everyday needs, while specialty shops in fashion, interiors, design, lifestyle and sports reflect the wider Aoyama character. Walking toward Omote-sando brings a much larger concentration of commercial facilities and brand stores, while Aoyama-itchome also offers practical shopping. As a result, the range becomes significantly broader when the everyday walking radius is extended to roughly 10-15 minutes. The area is less suited to suburban-style bulk shopping at very large supermarkets, however, and the distance to a suitable grocery store varies by address. When evaluating a home, it is useful to walk the actual routes not only to the station but also to groceries, pharmacies, dry cleaning and other frequently used services.
