Housing and Streetscape

Housing around Roppongi-itchome includes luxury tower residences and homes incorporated into large mixed-use developments alongside mid- and lower-rise apartment buildings on surrounding streets. Minato City's records for the Roppongi 1-chome South redevelopment describe a 27-storey complex containing 270 residences, completed in 2012. The Roppongi 1-chome West project similarly integrated the station with a large development containing residential, office, retail and hotel uses. These projects created the modern high-rise skyline immediately around the station, yet smaller streets still contain steep slopes, temples, shrines and lower buildings. Property selection therefore involves more than view and building age. Exposure to Roppongi-dori and the Metropolitan Expressway, gradients, sunlight, nearby construction and building management can all materially affect daily life. Tower residences may provide extensive shared amenities but can also involve significant management and reserve fees. Because living conditions can change sharply over a short distance, viewing a property during both daytime and evening, and ideally on both weekdays and weekends, is useful.
