Living in Mita as an International Resident
Map & surroundings
Mita is a central Tokyo neighborhood where international residents can access a relatively broad range of multilingual information. Minato City provides weekday foreign-resident consultations from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with English and remote interpretation in Chinese, Korean and numerous other languages. Multilingual guidance is also available for families considering Minato public elementary and junior high schools. In September 2026, the city added an English edition of its flood and inland-flood hazard map. The presence of universities, internationally oriented businesses, hotels and restaurants means overseas residents and visitors are common in the area. Nevertheless, rental contracts, resident registration, schooling and healthcare are governed by Japanese procedures, and the city's foreign-resident consultation service can be useful when assistance is needed. Transport is particularly convenient through the two Toei subway lines at Mita and JR services at Tamachi.
