Culture and History in Mita

Mita has particularly strong links to education and modern Japanese history. Keio University's Mita Campus contains the nationally designated Important Cultural Properties Mita Public Speaking Hall and the Old University Library, along with a memorial marking the place where Yukichi Fukuzawa died, literary monuments and works of art. Keio notes that the interior of the Mita Public Speaking Hall is not open for general visits, so access conditions should be checked before visiting heritage sites. Numerous temples also remain across the wider Mita neighborhood. Walking from the modern office district toward Mita 2-4 chome reveals slopes, temples, schools and established residential streets. Fudanotsuji Square houses both Mita Library and Minato City's cultural-property administration, providing another public resource for local history. Mita's cultural appeal lies less in a single attraction than in the close overlap of modern business, university life, temple districts and residential history.
