Safety and Disaster Preparedness Around Mita

Mita combines offices, schools, restaurants and residential buildings, and pedestrian activity changes considerably between daytime and late evening. It is therefore more useful to examine current Metropolitan Police information and the actual streets used at night than to label the entire neighborhood simply safe or unsafe. For disaster preparedness, Minato City publishes maps covering tsunami, liquefaction, earthquake shaking, flooding and inland flooding, storm surge and landslide hazards. Flood and storm-surge information was updated in July 2026 to reflect changes to Japan's disaster weather information system, and an English flood and inland-flood hazard map was added on September 1. Terrain also changes across the station area: lower ground extends toward Shibaura to the east, while the land rises toward Mita to the west. Consequently, hazard conditions can differ even within the same walking radius, making address-specific checks essential when selecting a home or office.
